Vegetable Production Management (VPM)

Purpose-built farm management for small to mid-size vegetable operations — from planting through customer delivery.

VPM is completing its certification process for publication on Microsoft AppSource and will be available shortly. Built on Microsoft Dataverse and the Power Platform, VPM gives vegetable farming operations a complete production management and compliance foundation designed for real farm workflows — not adapted from an enterprise system built for something else.

The Problem VPM Solves

Most vegetable farm operations run on spreadsheets, whiteboards, and tribal knowledge. The available software options are either enterprise-complex and enterprise-priced — built for large commodity operations — or consumer-grade tools that lack the compliance and traceability infrastructure that growing regulatory requirements demand. VPM is purpose-built for the gap in the middle.

The pressure to fill that gap is intensifying. FDA FSMA Section 204, the Food Traceability Rule, mandates lot-level traceability for fresh produce from field to first receiver. Final law since November 2022, with Congressional-mandated enforcement beginning July 20, 2028. Organic certification programs require documented material input tracking, production records, and complete lot traceability today. VPM is built to address both.

What VPM Covers

VPM manages the complete operational lifecycle of a vegetable farm:

  • Production Planning — what to grow, when, and where
  • Field Operations — greenhouse seeding, transplanting, direct seeding, and material input tracking
  • Harvest Records — field harvest linked to production plans
  • Pack Shed Processing — lot number assignment and pack run management
  • Sales Order Management — order entry through fulfillment
  • Shipping and Delivery — lot-traced shipment records to customer dock

Every transaction links to a Production Plan, creating a complete and auditable traceability chain from planting decision to customer delivery. Built-in support for USDA Organic, Oregon Tilth, and WSDA certification documentation is part of the core data model — not an add-on.

Compliance Built In

The current VPM implementation addresses 85–90% of FDA FSMA 204 requirements, with the remaining gap being workflow refinement rather than architectural rebuilding. VPM is not a compliance bolt-on — traceability is foundational to how the data model is structured.

Platform and Integration

VPM is built on Microsoft Dataverse and the Power Platform — an open, extensible architecture rather than a proprietary system. Integration with QuickBooks Online supports customer and vendor synchronization with invoice generation flowing directly from order fulfillment. The architecture extends to Microsoft Business Central, NetSuite, and warehouse management platforms as operations grow.

Modular Release Structure

The Core Release delivers the complete Dataverse data architecture and a Model-Driven Power App for production planning and field operations management. Additional modules are released as separate components that extend and build upon this Core:

  • Pack House Management
  • Sales Order Management
  • QuickBooks Online Financial Integration
  • Power BI Analytics and Reporting

Each component is independently installable and additive. Organizations can adopt the platform incrementally rather than all at once.

Proven in Production

VPM has been in active beta production at an organic vegetable farm in Bow, Washington with 40–60 acres under cultivation — tested against real field operations, real pack shed workflows, and real customer order management requirements. Not built against a theoretical use case.

A Word About Implementation

VPM is not a system you install and have running the following week. Like any serious farm management platform, a successful deployment requires mapping the system to your specific crops, fields, customers, and operational workflows. Hanging Valley Enterprises provides implementation services, or the system can be configured by your internal IT staff or a qualified Microsoft Power Platform partner.

We offer a structured engagement process starting with a discovery and configuration workshop to establish your baseline setup.
